future prog. before past disaster - 2019
I followed a year of university studies to do this work. It seemed interesting to me to model different areas of knowledge between them. I wish to offer the viewer an original experience of thought through a concentration of imaginary institutions. Perhaps these suggestions can one day be used in a completely different context?
Departed to the margins of past, present and future time, to places that are not very trampled on by humans, on the edges of worlds, the young ethnologist, for her first field of research, confides to me the experience she has lived and that I will try to narrate.
I am not a scientist or even a writer, I belong to the male gender with a white skin colour, high waist and blond hair, born in the southernmost part of the South into a family favoured by its genealogy. Only curiosity makes my hands stretch out on the keyboard and tap all this. Before that, to hold the microphone and record the words of the researcher who chose not to reveal her identity, I mean her belonging because "I" is always "I".
Circumpolar lands and seas were not well represented in her adventurous mind when, in her early days as a student, she's trying out the disciplines of understanding humanity on the planet. But reading better, seeing more, listening attentively, the north of the north of the world revealed, poorly, its mystery, too poorly the moment she would feel the crazy winds and the caressing soil of Siberia.
The male character, but woman otherwise, as she will learn below, shamanised in the disturbing darkness of a circular tent, obstructing the view of a small population part but not the presence hereof. I imagine how the heart beats and the eyes tremble if similar context provides a place to meet for the first time but I certainly make it up, my interlocutor is very courageous.
All then participated in the ritual and the foreign presence did not matter because, indeed, the unknown is not human in this performance. The invisible beings that the shaman - transgender - proposes to intercede for the benefit of the great number, including Europeans, play even more to the fantastic amazement. What then froze in the researcher were the words of the other world, which were heard without not knowing where, when and how, but which were intensely lived as never before. Words translated in our Europeanized terms, yet, which, it is hoped, faithfully bridge these distant conceptions - universal words will argue others! - :
the life of
equal and free dignity
of a vast
relationship [n+1]² (rhythm to the tambourine mimicking the infinite radiance of relationships)
in sharing of
the pain and the enjoyment
with the matter
X. remembered the astonishing choreography of the bodies, the shaman's stomach against the back of a bear flat on the ground, the blinded head of an angora fur, during a fungal hallucinogenic trip, singing as a wonder the earth full of vocalization, the rhythms of the minimalist skies. Each of the participants took up, mezzo, the verse of the lyrics, of which she did not know enough about the language, and twisted a-synchronously the busts, necks, faces and the bottom geniculate in vertical.
And to pursue in more unheard voices, a redoubtable song of which we can now quietly study the jurisprudence:
sovereign entity jealously suffering for itself,
and with others
foedus or foetus,
to converse the self, to unite otherness
I thought I understood the scientist's confusion, the anguish that grips all researchers when at sight, smell, hear and touch such a situation. She confided in me, I say confide, but it was only with caulked words, the confusion of the mind when, immersed in this spectacle, her senses became deficient - but the fatigue of the journey, the harshness of the polar climate, the unusual native language - and that she woke up almost suffocating in the heart of a skin a little too warm.
Continuing, X. told me of her surprise to learn that she was not the only one to bend all against the cantata. The shamanic experience offers few hooks to the human habitus and many escape themselves to invisible places. The words alone freeze in ego and the doctoral student conscientiously writes their trace on fetish notebook. Here is how, later and closer to Europa, the Siberian intellectual material is expressed, worked by university concerned with a renowned doctrinal receptacle, and I quote:
uninterrupted dynamic indescribably confounding
the perceptible, the sensitive, the intelligible
At wish, I decide not to guide the reading of the verse in any way, however, I offer my more general impressions on how such an argument works: is it not the shaman herself who exclaims full of ardour with the errudite pen of education? Haven't we been played by the intercessor from there above to our here nearby? Invisible and visible, close and distant, chained too firmly?
The academic kindly brings me back a souvenir that she has preciously kept in her memory. Shortly after the ritual, she discussed at length with the transgendered shaman woman who instructed her in mysterious words, here transcribed as is customary:
to allocate the minimum means for the maximum effects,
thus, does not take part at all or very half,
because indeed, knowing how to allocate a maximum of means to a minimum of effects,
sometimes even only a single desired effect.
authorizes, however, the granting of some means for some purposes
and is, also, from time to time, adequately responding to it:
let's sumptuously sacrifice this ordinary POTLATCH
I didn't understand if X. had interpreted these words coming from the frozen distance, myself (and my microphone to turn off!) started to daydream these sentences and lost the point of the confidences. For the sake of economy, I will stop typing this text here and invite all those who so wish to read - echoing with self and you - the thoughts of the world's edges.
